How GBG scores bundles
Every bundle gets a score from 1 to 10. It all comes down to one question: how likely is this to be a good deal for most players?
The score and the verdict
Might still be a good deal for you if you like most of the games in the bundle, but probably not.
Very likely to be a good deal even if you like just some of the included games.
The chances that you won't like this deal are tiny. Grab it!
The score comes from the value ratio - the total value of all the games in the bundle divided by the bundle price, read off the graph below. How each game’s value is worked out is explained further down.
A tiered bundle is scored a tier at a time and keeps its best tier’s score. A build your own bundle is scored at every number of picks it offers, assuming the most valuable games are picked first, and again keeps the best score.
How is the game value calculated
Every game starts from a base price, which is then penalized for the factors below. What remains is its value.
- Base price: The lowest price the game has sold for in the past year. If the game has appeared in a bundle costing less than that, the price of that whole bundle is used instead - it is the most you would have had to pay to get the game.
- Steam review count: The fewer reviews a game has, the bigger the penalty - around 35% at a thousand reviews, 5% at ten thousand, and none at fifty thousand.
- Steam review score: The lower the share of positive reviews, the bigger the penalty. Anything at 90% positive or above is not penalized.
- Players: Multiplayer-only games are penalized on their live Steam player count, heavily once it falls under 50. Games with a single-player mode are never penalized for this.
What doesn’t affect the score
- GBG does not score on genre or taste. A great strategy game and a great shooter are worth the same here; whether you want either is your call.
- GBG earns a commission when you buy through its links, but stores cannot pay for placement and nobody sees a score before it goes up.
